I trained as a Chartered Accountant with PwC (Manchester then London) then left to join WPP, the marketing services group, initially in financial roles then in senior operational roles. Most recently I was COO of WPP's Specialist Communications division which comprised a portfolio of approximately 35 businesses across different specialisms and geographies.
I left WPP at the end of 2020 after a 24 year career there with the aim of pursuing a portfolio career. I already have a few NED roles and I am having conversations about adding to these. I am particularly looking to work with Marketing Services businesses in a high growth phase who need assistance with the journey from someone who has years of experience in doing just that.
I am also currently consulting for several PE firms who are in the process of looking at investments across Marketing Services with a view to an ongoing Non-Executive Director role post-deal.
I see Virtual Non Execs as potentially a great way to get access to a wider pool of opportunities and am open minded on potential roles. The important element is to be working with talented entrepreneurs with high quality business models.

I worked with Laurence Mellman at WPP for over 25 years, during which time the organisation grew from 25,000 to 150,000 people. Laurence ran the M&A process for WPP for many years during which he led the acquisition of many of WPP's most successful businesses. I was the WPP CIO for most of that time. From my point of view, Laurence was always generous with his time and thoughtful advice when I had a thorny business issue to deal with and I duly made use of that fairly regularly; he gave wise counsel on business issues from Brazil to Hong Kong! Given my experience of working with Laurence over the years I think he would make an excellent NED
