I am a Digital Non-Executive Director, Advisor and Consultant. I specialise in working with both established and start-up businesses who identify the important role that digital plays and need some help/support to ensure their business unlocks its digital potential. I am based in Scotland however I work with clients globally and have experience in international markets.

The work I do is both challenging and rewarding: working with owners and/or board of directors who have a particular challenge or just know that digital is something they should do better but don't have the expertise to steer the business in the right direction.

I have founded and grown a successful business, been Head of Digital in a £4.7bn turnover FTSE250 Plc, Head of Marketing in a fast growing digital focussed international tour operator, and delivered a range of projects for clients, so i’m well placed to help large businesses and businesses aiming to scale succeed.

'Digital' is quite a loose term so below are some practical examples of how i've helped clients:

- INTERNATIONAL E-LEARNING BUSINESS - Worked with the founder and CEO initially to identify areas of opportunity and potential globally. Then worked with them to spec and build (using 3rd party developers) a new technology that enables them to unlock new revenue streams using web technology to maximise their peer to peer online learning community.
- SAAS BUSINESS - based in Singapore, I work with the founder/CEO to help sense check strategy and technology projects
- DIGITAL AGENCY - NED role working with the two founding directors to help them strategise and provide support during sustained, fast growth
- TOP 5 ACCOUNTING FIRM - working with them to sense check and identify areas of opportunity in their digital marketing strategies and internal digital resourcing
- VEHICLE LEASING BUSINESS - working with the board on web technology strategy and putting in place the best solution for the business to facilitate high growth

Macs Adventure is an international tour operator with offices in the UK, US and Germany. I was appointed as Head of Marketing, sitting within the Leadership Team and reporting to the CEO, with responsibility for all global marketing activity and website projects across all 3 markets. The business achieved double digit year on year with the marketing function being a vital element of that growth. I managed a sizeable marketing budget, a team which grew from 3 to 7 and delivery of multiple projects including the delivery of 3 large scale website projects, on time and on budget, which resulted in huge conversion improvement.

I joined Lookers PLC to take on full responsibility for digital marketing and all website platforms for the business at a group level, managing a multi million pound P&L. This involved building a digital strategy from scratch and migrating all digital activity in-house, hiring and managing a large team to handle all activity across the group. This was highly successful with considerable YoY performance growth coupled with substantial cost savings.

Managed the planning, strategy, tender process, development, migration and continued performance improvement of 5 enterprise level websites for the group, including multi-brand e-commerce and customer portal functionality.

Lookers plc is the 2nd largest automotive retailer and distributor in the UK with over 160 locations across the U.K. and Ireland with a turnover in excess of £5bn. Lookers is comprised of three motor divisions: Lookers in England and Wales, Taggarts in Scotland and Charles Hurst in Northern Ireland and parts of the Republic of Ireland with the additional of an agricultural division Platts Harris.

I worked as a digital marketing consultant with a range of public and private sector clients spanning various industries.

I was contracted as an ICT/Digital Marketing advisor to a range of high growth companies account managed by my public sector clients.

I was headhunted by what was a traditional advertising agency to start their online department from the ground up, hiring staff, deciding on services to offer and setting pricing. I was then tasked to run the department and reach sales targets, which were always exceeded.

I think its testament to the job i did that the agency is now 100% digital

Organic Digital is a digital marketing agency offering affordable online marketing solutions to the SME market. With regional offices across the country we offered local knowledge with specialist skills and experience at head office.

We also launched Organic Hospitality which specialised in online and offline marketing in the hospitality, tourism and e-commerce sectors delivering bespoke inspirational design and development.

While i was working full time in another business i was being asked to do SEO work for people i knew, to a point where i had the opportunity to earn more than my full time job. I resigned to work as a freelance consultant for these companies and was proud to keep my employer on as clients as well.
